Makin' Out 03:39
You had a leather belt, your hair was feathered You were sharp We were at the campfire Our skin was cold, but our hearts were hot Our skin was cold, our hearts were hot Nothing better to know about Than how it feels makin’ out Nothing better for a mouth Then time spent makin’ out Laying down in the tall grass, o, listen to the hum Of the stars Learning things about our tongues We could only learn in the dark We could only learn that stuff in the dark Nothing better on a couch Than two people making out Nothing better then or now Than two people makin’ out

Heavy Metal 04:58
I know there's something practical about the ways of heavy metal There's a something very practical As a kid, I was terrified when the night light went off I went chalk white when the night light went off In the summer, a porch light was the best light in the night On my bike I did race through those neighborhoods at night In a forest, in the dark, as a kid, heavy metal In a forest, with my brother, in the dark, heavy metal I know there something practical about the ways of heavy metal I know my brothers love iron maiden

It's good to note Harmonica solo Opening your throat Just before the flood So satisfying To watch a breath feed a new breath So unsatisfactory To watch yourself become yourself Concentration Is making a burden out of me again Concentration Is looking in the mirror so thin And it hesitates and lies And it compromises And there ain't nothing like being warm When I am wrapped inside her arms This girl I am in love with She holds me in her arms Concentration Holds me in her arms Concentration Folds me in her arms Concentration

Bike Helmet 03:39
You want to go somewhere But you're just a little kid All you've got is your bike So you want a bike ride But your parents are adamant You will wear a helmet But a helmet seems so lame You don't want to be that way So you stash it in the bushes (The bike helmet) And retrieve it coming home (The bike helmet) And you hope you're not busted By your parents driving bye And you're pissed because Your parent care about your skull You're pissed because And unprotected skull is cool Or something like that

about

I moved my eight-track in my basement, from that one place—over there, to that other place—there. From that spot the whole room felt different. Also, it had been on this little table, but now it was on an even littler table and was only a foot or so off the floor. So, the whole time I made this record I was on my knees in front of it. From there I could reach a cheap semi-hollow body electric guitar, a Casio keyboard, and a bass, but that was about it. It was cold that winter. I wore a stocking cap and pulled it down over my headphones.

about

Short Hand Muncie, Indiana

Short Hand figures that it's easier to learn to play an instrument than it is to find someone who can play it. He also figures that it's easier for him to do the writing, recording, mixing, artwork, and anything else that might need to be done. In the end, a set of sounds collect themselves into different shapes one might call "albums." Some sound like this and some sound like that. ... more
